SJ high school student who allegedly made threats located, lockdown lifted

A shelter-in-place order at Evergreen Valley High School in San Jose was lifted Friday morning after a 15-year-old student suspected of making threats against the campus was located, according to San Jose police.

The student, who allegedly stated that he would "shoot-up" the school on a social media web site on Thursday night, is being detained and interviewed to determine if he will be charged with a crime, police Sgt. Jason Dwyer said. The teen was unarmed and did not resist officers, Dwyer said.

Police were alerted about the alleged threat Thursday night and were able to identify the student and search his residence, but did not locate any weapons or signs of a plan to attack the school.

The school was shut down around 9:30 a.m. today and students and staff were told to shelter in place after a staff member spotted someone he believed to be the student in question.

Busy Market and Church intersection in SF partially closed this weekend

Motorists traveling in the area of Church and Market streets in San Francisco this weekend should brace for detours and delays.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency issued a reminder this week that the busy intersection will be closed and Muni light-rail vehicles and buses will be rerouted to permit the replacement of the tracks at that intersection.

Starting at 7 p.m. today, crews will work around the clock until about 5 a.m. Monday to complete the work, which is part of the nearly two-year-long Church and Duboce Track and Street Improvement Project, which began last spring, according to the SFMTA.

Church Street will be closed in both directions at Market Street, and westbound Market Street will be closed to through traffic at Church Street.

Eastbound Market Street will remain open.

The construction will also partially shut down the J-Church and F-Market & Wharves lines and will cause the rerouting of the 22-Fillmore, 37-Corbett and N-Owl bus lines.

Inbound J-Church riders will need to transfer from the stop at Church and Market streets to underground Muni Metro service at the Church Street Station.

Outbound J-Church customers should take a K-Ingleside, L-Taraval, M-Ocean View, or S-Shuttle train to the Church Street Station.

Additional information about traffic and transit impacts can be found at www.sfmta.com/duboce or by contacting 311.

Man stabbed after intervening in domestic dispute in Fillmore district

A man was stabbed in the chest after trying to intervene in a domestic dispute in San Francisco's Fillmore District on Thursday evening, a police spokesman said Friday.

The stabbing was reported at about 5 p.m. in the 1500 block of Steiner Street, police spokesman Sgt. Daryl Fong said.

The 59-year-old victim saw a dispute between a man and woman and tried to intervene and separate them, Fong said.

The man told the victim to mind his own business, then swung and struck him in the chest, according to Fong.

The suspect and woman ran away while the victim went to a nearby bus stop. He initially thought he just had the wind knocked out of him, but when a passerby stopped and asked him if he was OK, the victim realized he had been stabbed, Fong said.

The victim then boarded a San Francisco Municipal Railway bus and took it to San Francisco General Hospital while keeping pressure on his wound, Fong said. He is expected to survive.

The stabbing suspect is described as a black man in his mid 30s who is about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs 170 pounds and was wearing dark clothing, according to Fong.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call the Police Department's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.
